• Task Force identifies gunmen in NAIA shooting

THE task force assigned to investigate the shooting of Zamboanga del Sur Mayor Ukol Talumpa and three others at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 has already identified the perpetrators.

However, Task Force Talumpa Head Superintendent Billy Beltran refused to name the alleged triggermen so as not to affect their manhunt operation.

He said they have already identified three suspects one of them was the gunman while the other two served as the lookout.

“We already have a cartographic sketch to help us in the immediate arrest of the suspects,” he told reporters.

At the same time, Beltran said that the assassination of the mayor was well-planned adding that the gunmen knew very well the schedule of activities of the victim.

“The gunmen were even aware of the flight schedule of the Talumpa couple,” he added.

Investigators noted that after leaving the departure area at the airport, two men on a motorcycle pulled up and one of them shot the victims in rapid fire.

He also said that the motive of the assassination could either be politically motivated or related with the mayor’s strong campaign against illegal drugs in his province.

Reports reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) indicated that Talumpa was involved in an intense rivalry with former Labangan mayor Wilson Kity Nandang, who lost a son in an ambush staged by unidentified men three months ago in Lanao del Norte.

Beltran on Monday met with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to present the result of their initial investigation.
