Property owners in Marikina City, who can pay their taxes in full and earlier than March 31, will get a 50 percent discount on Real Property Tax for this year, the City Government said on Wednesday. Under City Ordinance 88, the taxpayers are entitled to a tax relief in aid to the financial difficulties they had encountered in the aftermath of typhoon Ondoy in 2009. The reduction took effect in 2010 and will end this year. “Our citizens needed ample time to fully recover from the destruction of a typhoon like Ondoy. With the help of this ordinance, our taxpayers can avail of the 50 percent reduction on Real Property Tax of the current year by paying it in full from January 1 to March 31, 2015. They can likewise enjoy a free cup of coffee and reading materials while our personnel do their best to facilitate transactions in no time,” Mayor Del De Guzman said. Those who opt to settle their taxes on a quarterly basis can avail of a 10 percent discount and a free carwash.
