“I hope I don’t faint in front of her!” This was all Maria Angelina “Marian” Amul could say when asked how she felt after winning a meet-and-greet pass before the concert of Grammy Award-Winning singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who was recently in Manila to perform in front of fans as part of her The Red Tour series of concerts around the world.
Marian, 19, was just one of the lucky few who got the rare chance to meet Taylor Swift up close and take an unexpected photo with her thanks to SPINNR, the country’s leading music streaming app which earlier raffled several tickets to subscribers of the “Red Package” on the service.
What started as a quick backstage tour—with no less than Taylor’s mother, Andrea, acting as tour guide—suddenly turned into one of the most unforgettable experiences of Marian’s life as Taylor suddenly popped out from nowhere and greeted her fans.
“It was super unexpected, we were all caught off-guard!” Marian exclaims. “After we had our picture taken, I was trying to teach her a few Filipino words like ‘Mahal kita’ and she asked, ‘Is that the same as Mahal ko kayo?’”
Back in 2011, when Taylor first performed in the country as part of her “Speak Now Tour,” Marian said she did all she could to catch her idol perform live, even if she’s just in the General Admission area of the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
But now, she was able to get real close to Taylor and even shared a few moments with her, all thanks to SPINNR and Philippine mobile leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart).
Though not everyone was as lucky as Marian and other winners of the SPINNR Red Package promo, all of the Taylor Swift fans who attended her concert were treated to a rousing performance that turned into a massive sing-along to all of her recent popular hits.
Swift’s fans ranged from the young, like 12-year-old Celyn Joie Tibre, to the young at heart, such as 25-year-old Lady Minnie Mariano, who were all ecstatic like giddy teenagers upon seeing their idol perform in a fully decked-out stage.
The 24-year-old country pop sensation opened the night with “State of Grace,” one of the songs from her most recent album, “Red.” This was quickly followed by hit after hit that included “The Lucky One,” “Red,” “Mean,” “22,” and “You Belong With Me,” which she performed acoustic, playing the guitar on her own while wearing a red shirt with the word “Manila” on it.
With a grand piano ushered into the stage, Swift also performed the song “All Too Well” with the same gusto and head-banging energy she had during this year’s Grammy’s. At one point during a pause in the middle of the song, she faced the close to 20,000 fans in front of her, almost teary-eyed, and was greeted with a rousing five-minute applause that showed how her local fans adored her so much.
But winners of SPINNR and Smart’s various Taylor Swift concert promos got more than just passes to watch the show. Prior to the event, the winners were treated to a quick “makeover” session where they had the chance to look and feel like Taylor Swift herself.
The winners also got the chance to get glitter tattoos and celebrate with fellow Taylor Swift fans in a pre-event party organized at T.G.I. Friday’s near the concert venue. And when it was time to proceed to the venue, they were all chauffeured in executive cars provided by premium car service Uber.
“This is really what makes the SPINNR experience different from any other music streaming service out there,” says Mellissa Limcaoco, Innovation and Product Development Head at Smart. “SPINNR is more than just a music streaming app—we provide the total VIP music experience to our users, as experienced by Taylor Swift fans during her recent concert in the Philippines. This is the SPINNR experience.”
Immediately after the concert, SPINNR announced that fans can literally take home the Red Tour experience with them by way of a raffle promo, where they stand a chance to win an original guitar personally autographed by Taylor Swift herself. Contest mechanics will be revealed via the spinnr.ph website in the coming days.
For just P2.50 per day and no additional data charges, music fans can get the same experience through SPINNR’s vast catalog of millions of songs from local and international artists. SPINNR is available on the web via spinnr.ph, and on smartphones via the Android and iOS app, with a free 15-day trial for newly registered users.
