A teachers’ group on Tuesday expressed its support to the planned mandatory drug tests for teachers and students in public schools.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones has said that her agency is considering subjecting teachers and students to drug tests in support to the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.
“The Secretary’s plan to have teachers tested on illegal substance is welcome. DepEd’s role in government’s anti-drug effort is crucial and teachers should serve as role models for our youth and people in general,” Benjo Basas, national chairperson of Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC), said in a statement.
“We believe that strengthening the important institutions like schools, in the long run, would be a more effective way to reduce, if not totally eliminate drug menace in our society,” he said.
