• Teachers not ‘waterproof’

A teachers’ group has asked the Department of Education (DepEd) to clarify in a public statement that public school teachers are not required to report to work during class suspension.

According to the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition, they are receiving complaints from some teachers in localities that have declared a suspension of classes from inclement weather.

The group said it is really illogical to require teachers to report for work since the work of a teacher is to teach.

“And if there is no one to teach, what will she do in the school? Teachers, just like our students need to be safe in the comfort of our homes in a rainy day. We are not waterproof,” Benjo Basas, the group’s national chairperson, said.
