Team Macherr-A and Quezon City Polytechnic University (QCPU) Questors topped their respective categories in the 2016 Puma Beach Touch League held at the Crystal Beach in Zambales over the weekend.
Team Macherr-A beat UP Touch Rugby Club 6-2 win in the women’s division finals. “It’s a challenging match since the UP players are younger and probably fitter than us right now. But our years of experience, team chemistry and composure made us win the championship,” Team Macherr’s Aleth Feliciano told The Manila Times. Finishing third was Team Macherr B followed by QCPU Lady Questors, Nomad Bullettes, Isla Ladies and Hapon Ladies.
Nomad Bullettes, the last year’s Laiya leg champion, lost to Lady Questors and Team Macherr-B in the preliminary round.
QCPU Questors, on the other hand, posted a thrilling 4-3 win over 2015 Laiya beach touch champion Manila Hapons to claim the top honors in the men’s category.
UP-ISLA finished third, the Manila Samurais fourth followed by Habagat and La Liga.
“This year, we had several new teams joined us for beach touch this summer – La Liga, Isla and the Manila Samurais,” added Feliciano.
“Beach Touch is a great way for our Touch Football teams to enjoy the summer weather and the sport of touch football at the beach. It might be a social alternative to touch [football]but we are still able to maintain the competitiveness in the league,” she concluded.
The Puma Beach Touch League will continue with its Boracay Leg on May 21 to be held in front of Nigi Nigi Too, Station 2, Boracay. The event was organized to raise funds for Red Cross Boracay chapter.
