Team PH cops three medals in Indoor Games


Team Philippines wrapped up its campaign with one gold and two bronzes in the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2013 held in Incheon, South Korea.

Veteran campaigners Gerald Jamili and Cherry Clarice Parcon delivered the country’s lone gold medal as they dominated the Latin-Jive category of the dancesports competitions at the World Gymnasium.

Jamili and Parcon scored 42.15 points (8.36, 8.50, 8.36, 8.43 and 8.50) in beating silver medalists Jang Sejin and Lee Haein of South Korea (41.72 points), and bronze winners Yumiya Kubota and Rara Kubota of Japan (40.14 points).

Jamili and Parcon earlier claimed a bronze medal in the Latin—Five Dances event while former world champion Rubilen Amit also chipped in one bronze in the women’s 10-Ball category.

Overall, the Philippines finished at 19th place in the Asian meet participated in by more than 3,000 athletes from some 40 countries.

Powerhouse China took the overall title with 29 golds, 13 silvers and 10 bronzes followed by host South Korea with 21 golds, 27 silvers and 19 bronzes, Vietnam with eight golds, seven silvers and 12 bronzes, Thailand with eight golds, three silvers and 11 bronzes and Kazakhstan with seven golds, six silvers and 18 bronzes.

The next edition of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be held in 2017 in Ashgabat,  Turkmenistan.
