Former Metro Rail Transit Line 3 General Manager Al Vitangcol should confess all what he knows about allegedly scandalous MRT 3 maintenance contracts that the government had entered into, according to a militant group.
Anakpawis party-list Rep. Fernando Hicap on Monday said Vitangcol should redeem himself by pinpointing the brains of the highly questionable maintenance deals.
“Despite his shortcomings as the former MRT 3 general manager, it is not too late [for Vitangcol]to redeem himself by exposing the ring leaders of the botched MRT 3 maintenance deal contracts. He is perhaps the most reliable source of information on the maintenance contracts compared to Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, who relies on [President Benigno Aquino 3rd] to evade accountability over the MRT 3’s poor condition,” Hicap added.
The former MRT chief, he said, should not be afraid of telling the truth because he has the support not only of train commuters but also the public who are sick and tired of inexcusable alibis coming from Abaya and the Palace regarding the sorry state of the MRT 3.
“We are seeking not only justice but also accountability of those who are responsible for the condition of our public transport system particularly the worsening condition of MRT 3,” Hicap added.
“If Mr. Vitangcol truly wants a closure to this scandalous case that dragged his name and reputation, then by all means he should tell all the information that he [has]got. He has nothing to lose but the tag of being the main culprit or operator of the anomalous MRT 3 maintenance deal contracts. At the same, he is arming the public [with]important information on the issue of the MRT 3’s scandalous maintenance contracts,” he said.
Vitangcol over the weekend broke his silence in the face of graft charges filed against him over the allegedly anomalous MRT 3 maintenance contracts, as he accused the Sandiganbayan of being maneuvered by someone to hasten court hearings and have him convicted of the charges.
