LEGAZPI CITY: Ten passengers were rescued by fishermen after a motorized banca capsized in the waters off Cawayan town in Masbate at 1:00 PM on Friday due to big waves.
The M/B Necel was loaded with ten passengers who were on their way to Naro Island in Cawayan from Mahayahan Island when it capsized after it was hit by big waves.
The passengers who were rescued by the fishermen were Relina Sevilla, 42, Angelica Castro, 16, Algen Castro, 15, Catherine Lusa, 16, Nina Buhog, 64, Cory Buhia, 36, Lolita Roaro, 49, Nad Roaro, 16, Michael Taruan, 23 and Wilson Roado, 58.
The motorized boat was also loaded with 22 sacks of rice, 5 sacks of flour, 7 sacks of animal feeds and one sack of sugar.
The Philippine Coast Guard had prohibited small motorized bancas from sailing after a gale warning advisory was issued by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical and Services Administra-tion (Pagasa).
Earlier, the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol also warned seafarers against sailing because of the weather disturbance.
Bernardo Rafaelito “Raffy” Alejandro, OCD Bicol and RDRRMC chairman enforced the no sailing policy in the eastern seaboard of Bicol covering Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
