• Tesda, Coke to expand microenterprise program

THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) and Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines announced on Wednesday that they are planning to expand an ongoing program for micro businesses this year to cover more provinces. For this year, Tesda and Coca Cola will double the sites for its Sari-Sari Store Training and Access to Resources (STAR) program to 22 provinces and cities and raise the total number of beneficiaries to 17,637. “Whether as future employees or entrepreneurs, we want to equip women with skills,” Joel Villanueva, Tesda director general, said. Launched in 2012, the STAR program aims to empower 200,000 women sari-sari store owners by 2020 through training in simple accounting and access to microfinance.
