Global Finance magazine once again named Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando Tetangco Jr. as one of the best central bankers in the world for this year.

Tetangco earned an “A” rating in its Central Banker Report Cards, which has been published by the magazine since 1994.

The report cards grades central bank governors of more than 50 key countries on an “A” to “F” scale for success in areas such as inflation, control, economic growth goal, currency stability and interest rate management.

“A” represents an excellent performance down through “F” for outright failure.

This is the fifth time that Tetangco is receiving the award from the international financial magazine. He received the same citation in 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2012.

Besides the BSP governor, heads of the central banks of Malaysia and Taiwan were also awarded.

“As developed economies begin the gradual route to recovery and some of the largest emerging markets continue to slow, the world’s central bankers face a challenging time in managing monetary policy to positively influence economic stability and growth,” Global Finance publisher Joseph Giarraputo noted.

He added that every year, the magazine assesses the determination of central bankers to stand up to political interference and their efforts at influencing their governments on such issues at spending and economic openness to foreign investment and financial services.
