The Philippine Azkals went down to Thailand’s War Elephants, 3-0, in the last match of their two-game semifinals for the 2014 Suzuki Cup on Wednesday at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
With the loss, after a scoreless draw in Manila last December 6 in a home game, the national team’s hopes of entering for the first time the finals of Southeast Asia’s premier football tournament were dashed by the visibly more well-prepared Thais.
The War Elephatns scored early, through S. Chappuis in the 8th minute of the clash before an estimated 45,000 fans.
The goal was followed by another in the 56th minute by T. Kroekart and yet another in the dying minutes of the match, also by Kroekart.
Thailand will play in the finals against either Vietnam or Malaysia later this month.
