ARTHUR BALMADRID says he has one of the best jobs in the world. The reason: He learns a lot about other industries in the Philippines.
Balmadrid explained that Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) plays a major role in supporting the country’s economy because businesses, from small and medium enterprises to large companies, need trucks or commercial vehicles for their operations.
“For trucks, we need to support the market demand [in the Philippines]. There is still an increased demand for trucks because our economy is getting better year after year,” he said.
Also, more companies are buying new trucks instead of reconditioned units, a move that can turn out to be a good investment over the long term.
“More companies are now shifting to buying brand-new trucks, and last year, I think IPC sold 3,500 trucks. We are targeting 4,000 trucks this year,” Balmadrid said.
Because more companies are buying new trucks, he added that he must know also what is going on in the other industries outside of automotive.
“Once you are in this industry, you know what’s going on in other industries. Because every industry needs vehicles. Why do they need vehicles? You come to learn why these industries are buying trucks. And you gain an idea of how the other industries are going,” Balmadrid said.
“So you are not limited to the auto industry. For example, the mining industry, a lot of mining companies now are into buying big trucks and that is one of the reasons why there is a growing demand for big trucks,” he added.
But being in the vehicle industry itself also requires dealing with other allied industries.
“That is also one of the best things in being in this [automotive]industry. A lot of industries are involved like banking, financing, spare parts,” Balmadrid said.
“Oh yes….this is the best job,” he added.
