IN SUPPORT of his brother who obviously couldn’t promote his movie, Col. Jude Estrada scheduled a block screening of Senator Jinggoy’s Tatay Kong Sexy at the SM Megamall cinema.

While many thought that the solon was allowed to sneak out of his detention cell at the PNP Custodial Center at Camp Crame for the shoot, truth is, he finished the project when: 1) his co-star Mark Gil hadn’t succumbed to cirrhosis on September 1, 2014; and 2) his onscreen daughter Empress Shuck hadn’t given birth in the latter part of the same year by a grandson of former Vice President Teofisto Guingona.

Back to the movie. It opens with a scene at the talyer of Paquito (nicknamed Kit played by Jinggoy) as he rushes to leave to buy flowers for his wife on her birthday. It turns out that he, along with his three kids, is offering the flowers to a departed loved one.

Precluding that a widower must find a new partner—sorry to disappoint the dreamy-eyed, love-struck suckers for romance—this is not what happens next.

Enter Jinggoy’s supposed leading lady, Maja Salvador (who was reported to be reluctant to promote the movie due to lack of time) as a car repair shop customer. She is a fashionably chic fixer at a munisipyo and unattached, and becomes Kit’s confidante and ally instead. With speaking lines as long as her colorful skirts that almost kiss the ground, the rambunctious, hyperactive Maja strikes as the young Maricel Soriano in her Regal days with her nuances close to being gay.

Now Empress might hire a triggerman to finish me off for this, but Maja is the best thing about the movie. But did she or did she not really promote Tatay Kong Sexy? Not exactly doing the TV rounds, Maja did sound off the showing of the movie on her Instagram post.

Why should she not at the very least resort to social media promo when 50 percent of the Joey Reyes-helmed film is hers?

WELL-MEANING COLLEAGUES have but one important piece of advice for Martin Andanar as soon as he becomes the next PCOO (Presidential Communications Operations Office) Chief Martin Andanar under the Duterte administration, replacing Herminio “Sonny” Coloma: Possess a heart made of steel.

It was on social media that Martin’s impending appointment was first sounded off, as such, the scope of his responsibility TV5 host encompasses government information entities like PTV 4, Philippine Information Agency and Radyo ng Bayan.

Martin had to tender his resignation from TV5, leaving behind Erwin Tulfo, his partner in the morning news program Punto Asintado (on Radyo Singko 92.3 FM/Aksyon TV 41). And yes, saying goodbye to a team of hard working, dedicated news personnel led by News Chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes.

Undeniably a hottie in his own right, Martin provides a refreshing side to a beleaguered fourth estate, and how he will be able to discharge his duties as PCOO Chief without turning himself into a filibuster towards his peers is one tough challenge.

A native of Surigao and happily married to Las Pinas Mayor Nene Aguilar’s daughter, his childhood friends and town mates are optimistic, if not confident he fits the job to a T. So are his former co-workers in the network whose News5 Everywhere Martin had widened across the country.
