A personality linked to the law office popularly known as “The Firm” is vying for the No. 2 post in the Office of the Ombudsman.
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) lists Arthur Carandang as among the aspirants for Overall Deputy Ombudsman held by Orlando Casimiro.
Casimiro, who has been in the post for seven years, is retiring on August 23.
Carandang was Assistant Ombudsman during the tenure of Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo, a founding partner of the Villaraza Cruz Marcelo law office.
Recently, another former member of the law office, Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Rafael Santos, vied for the position of Presiding Justice of Sandiganbayan.
Another candidate for the Overall Deputy Ombudsman is a Malacanang official, Office of the President Undersecretary Ronaldo Geron.
A third is Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon Officer in charge Rudiger Falcis II. He is in the Deputy Ombudsman for the Military.
Also applying for the post if Commission on Elections (Comelec) Director for Planning Department Atty. Ferdinand Rafanan.
Other applicants are Private Practitioner Vernard Quijano of the Pamaran Ramos and Partners law office and George Soriano, chairman of the People’s Law Enforcement Board of Quezon City.
The applicants will go through a tough screening process by the JBC.
The council will submit at least three names to President Benigno Aquino 3rd who will make the final selection.
