The National Accreditation Board of Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) International is an accredited member of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). It is one of few accreditation bodies under ISQua that operate accreditation programs to certify hospitals and other healthcare organizations.
NABH International (NABHI) accreditation is facilitated in the Philippines through its country representative, HealthCORE.
“The whole point of accreditation is to first, upgrade our healthcare facilities so that they are at par with international standards of effectiveness and safety. Second is to make it unnecessary for patients to spend so much on getting treatments overseas. Why go overseas for treatments when we already have the same quality medical facilities here in the country?” said Joyce Socao-Alumno, executive director of HealthCORE.
NABHI accreditation is a step-by-step process wherein a hospital or healthcare facility is required to upgrade its operations to world-class standards. During the accreditation process NABHI sends assessors to a hospital and other healthcare facility to evaluate its operations, treatments, and services based on a set of 63 standards and 294 objective elements covering critical areas of Patient Care, Management of Medication, Infection Control, Facility Management and Safety, HR and IMS, among others.
Belo Medical Group’s facilities in Tomas Morato, Alabang, Medical Plaza and Greenhills were assessed by NABHI representatives, and given ample time to modify and upgrade its operations to meet NABHI standards. “It’s a proud moment for us,” commented Dr. B.K. Rana of NABH International.
“The international accreditation of Belo Medical Group’s surgical centers is a boost for medical tourism in the Philippines, since we can better convince more medical travelers overseas that our treatments and services are at par, if not better, than what they can receive in their home countries. I hope that this accreditation leads to similar achievements for other healthcare facilities throughout the country. Ultimately, it will be our patients and clients who will benefit the most from this international accreditation because they will be assured of top-notch care and services in Belo Medical Group,” said Dr. Filipino Buñag, who led the accreditation team from Belo.
