Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, during the Senate probe on the pork barrel scam Thursday, defended the National Bureau of Investigation for being criticized as “slow” in its operations.
“The NBI has been criticized by certain sectors for the supposedly slow phase of its investigation,” De Lima said in her opening statement.
“Hindi po totoo yan, the NBI is not slow. It is simply meticulous and exercises due diligence in this approach because this is a criminal investigation not a political witch hunt,” she added.
The NBI started the investigation specifically April 10 in the alleged Janet Napoles pork barrel operations and continues the probe until now.
De Lima said the NBI will file the charges with the Ombudsman “when it feels like the charges will stick and is confident that justice will be done”. PNA
