• The New Navara GTX 4×4: Living up to its legacy

    0

THE Nissan Navara, the one and only sport-utility truck, has cemented its place among pickups in the Philippines as being a lifestyle vehicle and not just a utility workhorse. Its niche market has adored it since it was first launched—offering the most powerful engine and most car-like ride, despite it being one of the most capable in its segment.

As the Navara still continues to prove its capability and reliability, Universal Motors Corp. (UMC) brings in the new Nissan Navara GTX 4×4.

It has the Navara’s full suite of high-performance features such as a six-speed manual transmission, 174 horsepower, 403 Newton-meter of torque, a unique eight-crossmember ladder-type frame, and a full-size cargo bed and cabin.

    Go to the extremes
The 4×4 Navara GTX’s tried-and-tested 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve turbo with intercooler diesel engine, enhanced with the highly advanced second-generation Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) fuel system, delivers outstanding engine performance.

The Navara has genuine 4×4 off-road capability. It offers the selection of 2WD (rear) for cruising around the city and suburbs, 4WD High for additional traction on basic dirt or wet roads, and 4WD Low for optimum traction on harsh off-road conditions. This 4WD system is equipped with a two-speed, electronic shift-on-the-fly, part-time transfer case, which allows shifting from 2WD to 4WD High without stopping the vehicle.

One of the more known features of the Navara is its first-in-class six-speed M/T. This transmission features a close-ratio gearbox, giving the Navara a higher level of responsiveness compared to the competition. This yields to faster acceleration and smoother shifting for overtaking, or just efficiently cruising in the expressway.

The Navara is also equipped with the largest fuel tank in its class (80 liters) and in tandem with the most fuel-efficient engine.

    New aggressive design
From the outside, the new Nissan Navara GTX has had a minor facelift. Nissan fans will instantly recognize the updated grille design with the more prominent V-pillars and new horizontal fins and the new front bumper design assembly with integrated fog lamps, offering a more aggressive yet refined look. The new 16-inch six-split-spoke alloy wheel design rounds it out for a more distinguished presence.

Drive with more confidence with the new pair of projector type headlamps with LED type clearance lights that not only provide aesthetic points but offer a safer drive as well.

    Built to last
The Navara GTX delivers long-haul durability that no other truck can. Based from the US Nissan Titan pickup concept frame, the sturdy eight-crossmember chassis delivers enhanced body and frame durability.

The cabin’s durable structure was made even better with the addition of strong reinforcements on both sides—the center pillar hinge brace, the outer lock pillar brace assembly, and the outer sill reinforcement. The rear body was also made secure with the installation of reinforcements to carry the most demanding loads. And for optimum protection of the cargo bed, the drop-in type bed liner helps guard your investment.

    Freedom within
Relax and enjoy the trip in elegant ambiance with more than enough room, comparable to SUVs. The body-hugging leather-upholstered front and rear seats can provide comfort and luxury even to the most discerning occupants.

Up front the center console has an advanced touch-screen multi-source entertainment system. An AM/FM tuner capable of playing CDs, DVDs and MP3s, it also offers SD card slots, a USB port, auxiliary-in, iPod or iPhone connectivity, and Bluetooth technology for hands-free phone functions. The Navara GTX can turn into a mobile hotspot with a USB broadband stick through the onboard Wi-Fi router.

Go to places you have never been, or overcome Metro Manila’s traffic with the best route at your fingertips with the QUICK-N GPS navigation integrated into the multimedia system. Likewise, maneuvering and parking in limited spaces will make you realize that the rear-view camera is a distinct advantage.

    Safety
The Navara GTX comes standard with ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution for a more effective braking, regardless of what the situation is. In addition, the Navara features driver and front passenger airbags in the event of frontal collisions, and the acclaimed Nissan’s Zone Body Concept.

Available in four colors and in manual and automatic transmissions, the Navara GTX 4×4 will certainly turn a lot of heads wherever it goes.
