‘Heneral Luna’ holds benefit screening for foundation
Artikulo Uno Productions, the producers of the historical action epic Heneral Luna recently hosted a special advance screening for the benefit of the HERO Foundation, an organization that provides educational assistance to children of soldiers killed or incapacitated in the line of duty.
Held at the Greenhills Promenade’s Cinema 8, the cocktail event was highlighted by the presence of HERO Foundation founder and retired Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Renato de Villa, who commended the efforts of the movie producers for upholding the valor and gallantry of one of the country’s unsung heroes, General Antonio Luna.
Gen. De Villa, along with fellow AFP officers and HERO Foundation officials, also lauded the movie’s vision of rekindling a deeper sense of appreciation for Filipino history and culture, and hopes that Heneral Luna will inspire critical thinking, incite cultural reawakening, and nurture a new generation of Filipino heroes among today’s youth.
A touching highlight of the pre-event festivities was the presence of some of the foundation’s child scholars. Eight-year-old, grade 4 student Alexa Mendez said, “The constant support we get from the HERO Foundation always reminds me that my dad’s heroism will never be forgotten. I will always be proud to say that my dad was a soldier.”
Also present during the premiere were Heneral Luna producer Fernando Ortigas and Eduardo Rocha, San Juan Vice Mayor Francis Zamora and wife Keri, Palanca Awards Hall of Famer Alfred “Krip” Yuzon, talent manager Arnold Vegafria, HERO Foundation’s Michelle Chan, Merger owner George Salud, Mega Publishing’s Sari Yap, Zen Zest founder Michelle Asence as well as members of the entertainment media.
Heneral Luna opened in major theaters on September 9 and as of present, there are calls from the public to extend the movie’s run.
