AFTER four long years without the inventor of the music channel on Philippine TV, MTV is making a big come back in February in a very special way.
This time, the world’s most popular music video channel will resurface for the Filipino viewer as MTV Pinoy with a program line-up that is specific to the wants and needs of the network’s perennial audience—the youth.
Through a brand new partnership between MTV’s producer Viacom and Viva Entertainment, a local and customized MTV Channel that is big on Pinoy flavor yet still complete with the world’s hottest hits will air daily to satisfy every Filipino music buff’s desire.
At Viva’s official announcement on Wednesday, MTV Pinoy’s official VJs were also introduced. They are Andre Paras, Yassi Pressman, Josh Padilla and Sam Pinto.
Andre is the goofy sports jock of the bunch. A son of PBA player-turned actor Benjie Paras, the current University of the Philippines varsity team player says, “This is a path I want to pursue on my own. I’m very excited to be an MTV VJ because I love music, I love talking, and I love sharing things about myself.”
Yassi, meanwhile, is the bubbly half-British, half-Filipino girl next door, who is also one mean dancer. Already experienced in acting for soap operas, she is looking forward to VJ-ing, saying, “This is where I’ll really be able to share my real personality. And I’m just plain madaldal!”
Josh, meanwhile, with his clean-cut looks takes after his successful ‘80s recording artist dad, Gino Padilla. Having appeared in a few TV projects since 2011, he is more excited to take on this brand new endeavor as VJ. “It’ll give me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try something new,” he reveals.
Finally, hands down the most popular of the group, showbiz’ forever “It Girl” Sam Pinto lends her star factor to MTV Pinoy. “I’m really the quiet type so being here is just as surprising for me as it is for all of you!” she laughs. “But it’s something new and challenging like Josh said, and I’m always up for things like this.”
MTV Pinoy will air on Channel 71 (Sky Cable), Channel 47 (Destiny Analog); Channel 71 (Destiny Digital); and Channel 37 (Cablelink).
