From “Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World”—the theme adopted for Manila’s hosting of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit—the 21-member forum will move to Peru next year with a focus on “Quality Growth and Human Development.”
Juan Raffo, APEC Business Advisory Council chairman for 2016, introduced the theme on Wednesday and said it would complement the Philippines’ initiatives.
Raffo said Peru’s growth to a “middle-tier” economy provided lessons for APEC, which for this year’s summit has focused on inclusive growth.
“2016 will be tremendous opportunity for all of you to know a region that is part of APEC, that is really a neighboring country to the Philippines. All we have between us is a little bit of water,” he said.
