Thousands stranded, classes suspended in southern Cebu due to Zoraida

CEBU CITY: Thousands of passengers were stranded at the Cebu port Tuesday morning as Cebu Coast Guard officials barred vessels from leaving port after weather forecasters raised public storm signal number 1 over Cebu and other Visayas provinces due to tropical depression Zoraida.

Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III also suspended classes from pre-school to elementary level in southern Cebu.

This was the third time classes were suspended in Cebu after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake and supertyphoon Yolanda.

Most of the passengers at the Cebu port were bound for nearby provinces in the Visayas and for Northern Mindanao.

At the passenger terminal in Pier 3, many passengers returned home after being told their boat trips were cancelled.

But some passengers chose to stay at the passenger terminal. PNA
