Three killed in alleged NPA attack in Bukidnon


THREE civilians were reportedly killed after a group of suspected New People’s Army attacked a house early dawn Sunday in a remote village in Bukidnon province, police reports said on Monday.

Reports at the Philippine National Police national operations center in Camp Crame said that unknown number of NPA rebels swooped down on a house of a certain Eddie Gawahan in Sitio San Abel, Barangay Liarayon, Talakag town, Bukidnon at about 3 a.m. on Sunday.

The reports added that witnesses heard gun fires a few minutes after the rebels entered Gawahan’s house. Three people were killed due to the said incident. Initial reports identified the three fatalities as Eddie Gawahan, a certain Jermininda Yanda and her son Jonnel.

Witnesses said that the rebels fled towards the hinterlands of Lantapan after the shooting.

Elements of the Talakag Municipal Police Station supported by troops from the army’s 8th Infantry Battalion were quickly dispatched to area for investigation and pursuit the escaping rebels. ANTHONY VARGAS
