Three more Cabinet members appointed

PRESIDENT-elect Rodrigo Duterte has named the secretaries of the Health, Trade and Tourism departments.

In a video released to the media in Davao City on Monday night, newly appointed deputy presidential spokesman Ernie Abella said Duterte appointed Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial as head of the Department of Health; Wanda Corazon Teo as Tourism secretary and Ramon Lopez as Trade secretary.

Abella, a Christian pastor, was earlier rumored to replace Salvador Panelo as the incoming President’s spokesman.

Teo, sister of journalist Ramon Tulfo, is reportedly the owner of Mt. Apo Travel and Tours.

Lopez works for the RFM Corp. as vice president and executive assistant to the President and CEO as well as concurrent head of the Corporate Planning Division. He is also the executive director of the entrepreneurship advocacy group Go Negosyo.

Ubial is an assistant secretary of the DOH for the Office of Health Regulations.

Duterte is yet to announce his choices for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, National Anti-Poverty Commission, Presidential Legislative Liaison Office, Office of the Political Adviser, Presidential Legal Counsel, Climate Change Commission and the newly formed Department of Information and Communication Technology.

For the position of CHED chairman, the Duterte camp said Patricia Licuanan will be retained because she has a fixed term.

  1. Health Secretary Janette Loreto-Garin is finally out despite her desperate attempt to cling to the post by appearing in numerous TV commercials. After spending so much of the people’s money, she failed to impress the new administration. For the new Health Secretary, let the Ads people select their talents. Huwag ng ipilit ang mga mukha ninyo sa TV.
