• THUMBS UP FOR Baguio’s ‘Project Puraw’

BAGUIO CITY: It’s all systems go for “Project Puraw (White)” of the city government and the Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office to transform Quirino Hill, also known as Carabao Mountain, into a mosaic dominated by white and green colors. The project entails painting the roofs and walls of around 6,000 houses in the villages –Upper, Lower, East and West Quirino Hill – in coordination with the communities concerned, local artists and a paint company. Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that based on studies, the kind of paints and colors chosen will help mitigate climate change as these will not only absorb sunlight but reflect it back to the atmosphere. The DOT regional office spearheaded a similar project earlier this year involving several villages in La Trinidad, Benguet inspired by the favelas in Brazil and aimed at revitalizing art festivals and caring for nature in the region.
