Tigresses hunt for second win in UAAP volleyball

Former champion University of Santo Tomas (UST) shoots for its second win when it faces University of the East (UE) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.

UST battles UE at 2 p.m. followed by the an interesting match between last year’s runner-up Ateneo de Manila University and Adamson University at 4 p.m.

The Tigresses, who lost key players, Maru Banaticla, Judy Caballejo and Maika Ortiz, bowed to defending champion De La Salle University, 8-25, 25-27, 13-25, last Sunday.

In that loss, Camela Tunay was the only player in double-digit with 10 while the 6-foot middle blocker Marivic Meneses was limited to seven and Pam Lastimosa and Jem Gutierrez scored five each.

This time, UST is expected to have a smooth sailing against the rookie-laden UE side.

The Lady Warriors are winless in two games, losing to National University (14-25, 22-25, 22-25) and Far Eastern University (14-25, 15-25, 11-25).

Sarina Bulan, the only veteran player in starting lineup, will be going all-out to lift the spirits of her young teammates including promising open spikers Shaya Adorador and Jasmine Alcayde.
