University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippine collide today in a duel of unbeaten Group B teams priming up for the quarterfinals in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

The Tigresses came away with a pair of 3-1 victories over San Beda and St. Benilde while the Lady Maroons disposed of the Red Spikers and the Lady Blazers via sweep to join the Far Eastern U Lady Tams in the quarters of the mid-season conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s.

FEU also routed St. Benilde in three and beat San Beda in four.

Though assured of the quarters berths, UST and UP are still expected to go at it not only for the momentum and confidence but also for the mark as their records will be carried over to the grueling quarters phase of the tournament backed by Mikasa as official ball and Accel as official outfitter.

Gametime is at 6 p.m. with the Laure sisters, Ennajie and Ejiya, along with Christine Francisco, Cherry Anne Rondina expected to carry the cudgels for the winningest team in the league where it all started with six championships.

But the young UP side, which toughened up by competing in the recent Open Conference, is also out to prove its worth behind Isabel Molde, Diana Carlos, Nicole Tiamzon, Justine Dorog and Katherine Bersola, guaranteeing an action-packed duel between two of the league’s fancied teams.

San Beda and St. Benilde, out of the quarters race with 0-3 cards, clash at 4 p.m. Both matches will be aired live over ABS-CBN Sports + Action Channel 17 or 23 and via streaming on www.sports.abs-cbn.com, according to the organizing Sports Vision.

While the Group B quarters cast has been settled this early, the fight for the three berths in Group A remains wide open with defending champion National U pacing the field with a 2-0 mark and San Sebastian and Technological Institute of the Philippines in joint second at 2-1.

Perpetual Help and Ateneo dropped their first two games but remained in the hunt provided they would sweep their last two games and hope either from NU, SSC or TIP won’t go over two wins.

Meanwhile, Ateneo guns for a third straight win and the solo lead in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference as it takes on National College of Business and Arts in a Group B duel at 10 a.m., also at the Philsports Arena.

FEU and newcomer Philippine Merchant Marine School tangle at 12 noon with the Group A match to be aired live via streaming.
