A taxi operators group on Friday has urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to grant their request for P5.00 charge for every two minute’ waiting time.
The current waiting charge time for taxis is P3.50 for two minutes.
Bong Suntay, president of Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PNTOA) and 4th District councilor of Quezon City, said as a series of rollbacks in gasoline prices has not benefited taxi drivers because of worsening traffic in Metro Manila.
In a news conference, Suntay added that the waiting time adjustment will help taxi drivers who are facing competition from app-based taxi alternatives Uber and GrabCar.
He said it will be a win-win solution if the LTFRB permanently issues P30 flag-down rate and raises to P5 the waiting time charge for every 2 minutes.
Last March 2015, the LTFRB brought down taxi flag-down rate by P10 nationwide, or from P40 to P30.
It recently reduced the minimum fare for public utility jeepneys from P7.50 to P7.
