Philippine queen Pia Wurtzbach is busier today than when she had the Miss Universe crown on her head in 2015.
After her Las Vegas stint as a judge at the pageant’s grand coronation night on November 26, she had a quick stopover in California to join mentor Jonas Gaffud in launching his book, “The Crown,” and flew back to Manila to head straight to BGC to pursue her advocacy on HIV and AIDS awareness.
“It’s about time that we acknowledge them [her fellow advocates], and give them their time to shine, especially on an event like this. Hopefully, it’ll give them a lot more motivation and the drive to continue their work,” she said on Friday at Love Gala Asia’s Premiere Charity and Awards gathering.
This particular appearance for the cause was very timely as it came at the heels of Pia’s social media post condemning PDEA and media for disclosing that a member of the LGBT community caught at a “chemical romance party” in Taguig City was HIV-positive. Uploading a black screen, the international beauty queen proved she knew her stuff as she cited the specific law [Republic Act (RA) No. 8504 or the Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998] that renders publicizing an individual’s HIV status illegal.
Calling out the government agency and news entities who used the story, she strongly stated, “To PDEA and the news outlets, take steps to mend the situation. Sa aking mga kababayan, wag po tayo maging judgmental. Hindi immoral ang maging bakla, hindi dapat ituring na kaparusahan ang HIV. At lalong hindi ito biro na dapat pagpiyestahan at pagtawanan. To my beloved LGBT community, stay strong. We’ll win this.”
Derek Ramsay is a Kapamilya once more but will remain a Kapatid. How will this happen? The showbiz hunk explained he signed on for a movie with ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema—titled “Kasal” with Bea Alonzo and Paulo Avelino—but he is still under contract with TV5 until early 2018.
“TV5 allowed me to do this movie right away because they want me to grow as an actor. My loyalty stays with them,” the Kapatid Network’s prized star declared.
All the same, he shared he felt touched that ABS-CBN’s publicity arm released a statement as early as November that network was welcoming him back for the project. This happened after he paid a courtesy call to network chairman Gabby Lopez and executives Cory Vidanes and Malou Santos, who had been responsible for reeling Derek into showbiz.
“We finally had the talk about what happened [referring to his transfer from ABS-CBN to TV5]. Matagal na dapat nangayari yun and I am very, very happy that we were able to sit down and talk.”
Derek said he felt nostalgic during his visit to his former network, relating, “It was nice to walk down those hallways again and I really appreciate that I got to talk to Tita Cory and Tita Malou. I really gave them a long, long, long hug when I saw them.”
Asked if he is willing to work again with ex-girlfriend Angelica Panganiban, he instantly replied, “Of course! I would really love to.”
Derek is fresh from a month-long vacation in Europe—his longest since joining showbiz—and is ready to promote his Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “All Of You” with Jennylyn Mercado.
“The trip was amazing! It was my mother’s birthday, but I am glad before I took it I already had my schedule figured out and work lined up until the end of the year.”
GUESS WHO? We are so back dishing out blind items again so here goes: In the Know just found out that an actor is getting cozy with a semi-regular bombshell who’s just been cast in his show. So, what is the big deal right? Well, this actor is known for his picture-perfect family, while the bombshell has a boyfriend herself. When at work though, they carry on as a couple but during work they keep on getting closer and closer, making everyone around them uncomfortable.
Until next week. Tah-tah!
