Five years after English pop singer and songwriter Tony Hadley made a surprise appearance at the Pinoy Dream Academy house to give the reality show’s budding singers advice on technique and professionalism, the lead vocalist of the ‘80s iconic Spandau Ballet is back in Manila for a one-night only concert.

Meeting with local media on Wednesday, Hadley expressed excitement over singing his signature hits for his Filipino fans at the grand ballroom of Solaire Resort and Casino on March 28.

The 53-year-old music man recalled that he was just about to pursue a medical career when he found himself joining friends in a band called “Spandau Ballet.” Little did Hadley know that his diversion would end up in a very successful career as one of the most recognizable voices of the ‘80s. Spandau Ballet became world famous with such hit albums as True and Parade.

It was in 1992 when Hadley embarked on a solo career, signing up with EMI for the album The State of Play.

Some years later, he formed his own company, Slip Stream Records, and produced the single “Build Me Up” from the movie When Saturday Comes (1996); embarked on an orchestral tour of Europe playing to more than 500,000 concert goers in six weeks; and again recorded a solo album with Polygram, which included a song he wrote for his daughter, titled “She.”

In 2003, Hadley joined and won reality show Reborn in the USA, where he appeared with other noted singers from the ‘80s. He also dabbled in theater and film in roles such as crooked lawyer Billy Flynn in the West End production Chicago; and the British short Shoot the DJ among others.

Back on the concert stage, he has been all over the world performing for fans most recently in The Netherlands, Australia, Chile, Italy and now in the Philippines. His motto in life: “Have band, will sing.”

The Tom Hadley Spandau Ballet concert is co-produced by Steve O’Neal Productions and Solaire Resort and Casino. Featured as guest performers are Mark Mabasa and Friends.
