PALO, Leyte: The top police official in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday assured the safety of the people in the region even as the government placed security forces on heightened alert after Friday night’s attack in a restaurant in Cagayan de Oro City that left eight people dead and scores hurt. Chief Supt. Elmer Soria, director of Police Regional Office 8, ordered police chiefs, especially in urban areas, to maximize police presence in commercial centers and places of convergence to prevent criminal and threat groups from victimizing civilians. “We must not be complacent in implementing our target-hardening measures. Intensify your intelligence and step-up your security efforts particularly in malls and other public places,” Soria said in his directive.
