FC Meralco Manila seeks to extend its stay at the top as it collides with Ceres Negros FC for the first time in the Philippines Football League (PFL) today at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The two powerhouse teams clash at 4 p.m. both keen to achieve their respective objectives.
The Manileños target to further pull away from the rest of the eight-club league after protecting their top position as well as their unbeaten record with a 2-1 win over JPV Marikina FC last week.
Sparks striker Phil Younghusband is optimistic they can hold off the Visayan heavyweight just like what they have accomplished against their previous opponents.
“We are a confident team. Winning is a habit (for us) and we have been winning (so far),” said Younghusband.
But the Negrenses are raring to re-enter the upper half of the standings and get ahead of idle JPV Marikina on No. 3.
“They (Meralco) are on top of the table but we want a good result and of course the three points,” said midfielder Stephan Shrock following the Yellow Busmen’s 7-0 demolition of Ilocos United FC on their home turf at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, Global Cebu FC plays its third home game against the luckless Davao Aguilas FC at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Coming off a 3-0 beating of Stallion Laguna FC, No. 2 Global Cebu aims to score a lopsided victory for an opportunity to grab the top spot.
The Davao Aguilas, however, is keen on notching its first win and snapping its two-game skid.
In their first meeting, the Cebuanos prevailed over the Davaoeños with a 2-1 decision last June 28 at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex in Tagum City.
