LINGAYEN, Pangasinan: At least 26 houses, a classroom and a chapel were destroyed when a tornado hit Sitio Lapog, Camagsingalan in Sual town at about 10 a.m. on Friday, July 17, according to the Police Provincial Office.
No person was hurt during the incident. However, the town experience several hours of power interruption.
Mayor Roberto Arcinue and Senior Insp. Leo Llamas, went to Sitio Lapog to spearhead clearing operations and provide safety services to affected residents.
The displaced families were relocated to an adjacent covered court and the barangay hall where they will stay until their damaged houses are repaired.
The extent of damage had not yet been determined.
Bani Mayor Gwen Palafox Yamamoto made the announcement through her Facebook account after the Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Council effected forced evacuation of families in flooded areas.
Eighty percent of the town’s agricultural lands and 90 percent of its fishponds were submerged in floodwaters.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief Reuben Oro noted that flooding is still confined in Bani, Santa Barbara, Calasiao, Alaminos City, Labrador, Sual, Mangatarem, Bolinao and Bugallon while a dike in Binalonan town gave way due to the rampaging waters of the Tagamusing River.
