The Foton Tornadoes crushed the RC Cola Air Force Raiders, 25-14, 25-13, 25-16, in the last game of the first round of eliminations of the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix at the San Juan Arena on Tuesday.
The Tornadoes ended their first round campaign with a bang by sweeping the Air Force Raiders in three consecutive sets snatching their second win in the competition.
Foton relied on their formidable front line players with 38 of their total points in the match coming from attacks as against their foes’ 25 converted spikes.
Despite a slow opening set, Foton managed to break through the gaps of RC Cola’s defense and established a one-set-to-nothing lead.
The Air Force raiders struggled committing 23 unforced errors throughout the game.
Jaja Santiago led her squad in the final push during the last set that sealed the win for the Tornadoes.
Import Lindsay Stalzer grabbed 15 points off 13 attacks for the Foton Tornadoes while Santiago finished with 14 markers from nine spikes, two blocks and three service aces.
With the win, Foton now occupies the fourth spot with two wins and three losses in five games while RC Cola still holds the fifth spot.
The Cignal HD Spikers are still on top of the standings after the first round with five straight wins while Philips Gold Lady Slammers follow closely on the second spot with four wins and a loss.
Defending champions Petron Blaze Spikers are off to a slow start with just three wins and two losses while the Meralco Power Spikers are still at the bottom without a single win.
