A town police chief and his deputy were killed following a grenade explosion Monday night inside a police station in Cabanglasan town, Bukidnon province, a police official said on Tuesday.
Northern Mindanao Police Director Agrimero Cruz Jr. identified the slain officers as Senior Insp. Crisanto Molina, chief of Cabanglasan Municipal Police Office in Bukidnon, and Insp. Dexter Garcia, his deputy.
Cruz said that policemen are still conducting a hot-pursuit operation against suspect Police Officer 1 Gorospe Cairo. It was not immediately known as to how Cairo decided on lobbing a grenade at his senior officers, but reports say that he tested positive in an unannounced drug test.
Cruz added that both victims were rushed to the Malaybalay Polymedic General Hospital where Molina was declared dead on arrival (DOA) by attending physicians.
He also said that Garcia died while undergoing medical treatment an hour after the incident.
