TOYOTA Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC) has reported a sales record in October with 10,163 units sold. This is the highest ever for Toyota and any local car brand in terms of monthly sales.
On a year-to-date basis, TMPC has registered a growth of 41.92 percent with 86,794 units sold against 2013 sales level. This fortified TMPC’s market share of 45.2 percent for the first 10 months.
“The continued robust economy has given us the momentum to achieve this sales milestone. Toyota has also foreseen the market demand to be strong before the long holidays and took action by ensuring supply of vehicles to meet the requirements of the consumers during this period,” said Michinobu Sugata, TMPC president.
Sugata cited the sales performance of both the Toyota Vios and Innova saying they continue to be the most important models for Toyota as their combined sales comprise close to 40 percent of TMPC’s total sales.
Toyota also maintained its lead in the passenger car segment with 35,163 units sold, driven by the higher buying power of consumers who require more affordable and practical vehicles such as the Vios and the newly introduced hatchback Wigo.
On the other hand, the continued strong demand of its commercial vehicles with sales of 51, 629 units year-to-date can be attributed to the growing requirement for vehicles from the various business sectors.
Year-to-date, total industry sales have reached 192,005 units in the first 10 months, up 30 percent against 2013 figures. Voltaire Palaña
