Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) set another sales record in May 2015 with a total of 10,511 units sold. In just five months through the year, the largest local car manufacturer accomplished its second record sales with the previous achievement being in March with 10,237 units sold.

The automaker’s locally-manufactured subcompact, the Vios, also registered its highest sales to date since its introduction in July 2013. Last month, sales of the best-selling vehicle in the country reached 2,886 units. This is also the highest sales record a single car model has achieved in the country’s automotive history.

For the first five months of the year, TMP recorded 19,408 and 28,386 sales for its Passenger Car and Commercial Vehicle segments, respectively, totaling 47,794 units. Compared to the same period last year, TMP’s sales performance grew by 19 percent.

In a statement, TMP president Michinobu Sugata said, “Achieving a new sales record last May displays the continued strong demand for our vehicles having sold more than 10,000 units last March and again in May. This is a solid testament of the trust and confidence of the consumers in continuously choosing our products. In addition, with the recently-signed EO [Executive Order] 182 entitled ‘Providing for a Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy [CARS] Program,’ this will allow continuity and increase in contributions to the Philippine economy of the auto industry through local manufacturing.”
