Toyota Motors Philippines Corporation (TMP) has one-upped the competition in the Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle (Compact MPV) segment with the unveiling of the new Avanza model, which is more fuel efficient and a lot more comfortable to ride in.
Unveiled today at the Highlands Steakhouse in Pasig City, the remodelled Avanza now comes with a more powerful, yet fuel-efficient engine. The new Avanza is also comes with an enhanced level of Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) reduction for a more comfortable ride.
The 2016 Avanza comes with a choice of either a 1.5- or 1.3-liter Dual VVT-I, four-cylinder in-line 16-valve double overhead cam (DOHC) engine that provides a maximum output of 103 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions per minute and maximum torque of 136 Newton-meters from 1,600 to 4,200 rpm.
The redesigned Avanza looks more advanced both inside and out. Up front, the headlamps, grille and bumper have been redesigned giving it a more upscale appearance that complements the fog lamps and lower grille. All in all, it expresses a wider stance, making it more refined but still as multi-faceted and as multi-functional as what an MPV has originally been designed for. Moreover, the new Avanza now has a set of 15-inch alloy wheels for a sportier look.
Inside the vehicle, the upgrade is further emphasized as seen in its new colored interior. With darker and more sophisticated shades of brown and gray, the Avanza certainly aims to make the driver and passengers feel more comfortable while inside the car. Its meter gauge has also been elevated with an eco-indicator to help guide the driver for optimum fuel efficiency. For utmost convenience, the vehicle is now equipped with a navi-ready touch-screen display audio. As the Avanza is designed also for utility purposes, the vehicle’s third-row seats can be now customized through its 50:50 split tumble functionality. This allows versatility by offering more cargo space for its passengers.
Just like all the other Toyota models, the best-selling compact MPV just got better with more safety features. With safety as a priority, it now has an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake -force distribution in all variants. Compared to its previous model, it also carries a child restraint system (isofix and tether anchor.)
The new Avanza is offered in several variants with a starting price of P667,000 for the 1.3J MT (manual transmission). Prices of other models are: P756,000 for the 1.3E MT; P797,000 for the 1.3E AT (automatic transmission); P869,000 for the 1.5G MT; and P910,000 for the 1.5G AT.
