TPLEx rerouting has negative impact on farmers

BAGUIO CITY: Thousands of farmers in Benguet and Mt. Province will be affected if the rerouting of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx), as proposed by former Pangasinan Representative Mark Cojuangco, is implemented. Benguet Rep. Ronald Cosalan said that farmers, who deliver vegetables and other farm products to Metro Manila daily, will be paying for more gasoline and toll fees if the rerouting scheme is followed. Under Conjuangco’s proposed rerouting, TPLEx would pass through less-developed villages and away from farmlands in Sison and Pozzorubio in Pangasinan. “I don’t understand the soundness of his proposal,” Cosalan said as he questioned what benefit the rerouting will bring to the Cordillera region when the travel distance is increased rather than decreased. Supporting Cosalan is the Benguet Provincial Board, Baguio Rep. Nicasio Aliping Jr., Mountain Province Rep. Maximo Dalog, Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan, and Vice Governor Nelson Dangwa.
