Traffic snarled as bus catches fire on EDSA

Traffic was snarled on the northbound lane of EDSA in Makati City after a  bus caught fire Wednesday morning.

A Cher Transit bus with license plate TYF 984 went up in flames near the Buendia loading bay at 11:14 a.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported.

While firefighters were putting out the fire, MMDA blocked the service road leading to the bus.

Radio reports indicated that the traffic was backed up all the way to Magallanes in Makati.

Alan Camarong, the bus driver, smoke coming from under the bus prompted him to pull over on the service road near the Shell gas station.

When the smoke billowed and the fire started to build, Camarong said he directed all passengers to get off the bus.

Charlie Nosares of the  MMDA Traffic Control said nobody was hurt everyone in the bus managed to get off before it was fully engulfed by fire.

The MMDA said the fire was under control as of 11:33 a.m.

Investigators were still determining what caused the fire.
