For the very first time in Manila, international travel experts and industry professionals gathered to take part in the world’s largest annual conference of travel bloggers, writers and media content creators—the Travel Blog Exchange (TBEX) Asia-Pacific 2016.
Presented by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), in coordination with NMX events, TBEX brought hundreds of participants from across the world to the Philippines for the two-day conference.
Welcoming the participants were DOT Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo, DOT Assistant Secretary Ricky Alegre, TPB OIC Joselito Gregorio, TPB Domestic Department OIC Susan Del Mundo, TPBMICE Department OIC Teresita Landan and TBEX CEO Rick Calvert.
Also joining the event were New York Times number one international best-selling author and veteran travel journalist Pa tricia Schultz, host of the award-winning podcast Slice of Sci-Fi Evo Terra, Agoda Vice-President Timothy Hughes, Travel Massive co-founder Ian Cummings, Venture Republic Founder Kei Shibata, and Filipino travel blogger and founder of ourawesomeplanet.com Anton Daiaz.
Secretary Teo thanked the participants for making the choice to come to the Philippines and said that it’s meaningful for her and the DOT to host TBEX 2016 as travel bloggers’ help are recognized in propping up economies.
Additionally, the secretary also encouraged everyone to go beyond the surface and interact with the locals, adding that, “if you open yourselves up to the Filipino experience, you will see and feel the soul of a gentle nation in Asia.”
Aside from the sessions, the participants also experienced Philippine culture, nightlife, food and people by visiting some of the country’s top destinations such as Ilocos, Palawan, Bicol, Cebu, Bohol, Davao, and Siargao among others.
“This is actually the best TBEX we’ve ever had. Filipinos are very hospitable and the culture is very welcoming,” remarked Calvert. “By bringing TBEX in the Philippines, we got to see and learn how amazing the country really is.”
With TBEX Asia-Pacific in the Philippines, the country is once again put in the spotlight as one of the premier travel destinations among the world’s most influential travelers.
