Alaska relied on the prowess of import Romeo Travis late in the game to power the Aces’ close 82-77 win over the San Miguel BEERMEN in the 40th Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Panabo Multi-Purpose Tourism Cultural Sports Center in Panabo City, Davao del Norte on Saturday.

Forward Calvin Abueva, a former San Sebastian College standout, contributed 12 points, while Casio and Chris Banchero added seven points apiece for the Aces who are now bearing a leading 8-2 win-loss record.

The Aces started hot taking a 23-10 advantage and closing out halftime at 47-31, but the Beermen managed to narrow the gap to 65-59 at the end of the third quarter.

The Beermen even took the lead after Mario Lassiter’s three-point shot, 77-76, before Travis rescued the Aces.

Travis, who scored 32 points plus 10 rebounds and two blocks, notched a three-point play with 51.2 seconds left in the game to help Alaska regain the lead, 79-77. Playmaker JV Casio sank three free throws to seal the Aces’ triumph.
