• Trillanes back, posts bail on libel charges

Senator Antonio Trillanes 4th on Tuesday posted bail for a libel case filed against him by dismissed Makati City Mayor Erwin Jejomar “Junjun” Binay.

Upon his return from the United States, Trillanes went to the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 142 to post the bail of P10,000.

Judge Dina Teves of Makati RTC Branch 142 had ssued a warrant of arrest against Trillanes while the latter was out of the country.

“I posted bail to show that I am ready to face the charges filed against me,” the senator

He described as harassment the libel case filed against him.

“This is one of the tactics of Binay on how to use his power to influence people and harass his political opponents,” Trillanes said.

The libel case, he added, is nothing compared to the charges hurled against the mayor’s father–Vice PresidentJejomar Binay–and his alleged cohorts.

The libel case stemmed from the accusations of Trillanes that two justices of the Court of Appeals (CA) were bribed with P50 million for their ruling against Binay’s suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman.

This led to the CA’s issuance of a temporary restraining order and then a writ of preliminary injunction that stopped the Office of the Ombudsman’s suspension order against Binay.

Binay, in his complaint filed on April 2015, described Trillanes’ allegations as “malicious.”
