Trillanes confirms VP plans for 2016

Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th has announced he is ready to run for the vice presidency in 2016, but will leave the decision to the Nacionalista Party (NP).

“I will definitely run [for a higher position]but I will abide by the decision of my party,” Trilanes said in a television interview on Thursday night.

He is currently on his second term as senator, which means that he will not be allowed to run for reelection when his term ends in 2019.

When asked if he is eyeing the vice-presidential post, Trillanes said he is ready to run for Vice President but he still needs to get the blessing of the NP.

His partymate and Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano is also expected to run for a higher position, reportedly the presidency.

Although Cayetano is yet to confirm his plans for 2016, he had admitted to intending to run for President but it does not necessarily mean that he will do so in the 2016 polls.

Several names have been floated as possible opposition vice-presidential candidates, including those of Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos, Sen. Jose “ Jinggoy” Estrada, who is implicated in the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam, and business tycoon Manuel Pangilinan.

Vice President Jejomar Binay is said to be the strongest candidate for President at present based on results of surveys conducted by various firms.

Sen. Grace Poe is mentioned as a possible candidate for President but she has said that at present she has no plans of seeking a higher post.

  1. Why not?! Very young, and not corrupt. He’s been pushing the salary increase. Of our teachers!

  2. Pwedeng mag-aspire si Trillanes for president. Para merong makatapat si Binay. I will support Teillanes kahit saang position pa sya tumakbo.
