Veteran actress Jaclyn Jose returned home triumphant on Tuesday after winning best actress at the Cannes Film Festival.
Jose, 52, arrived with director Brillante Mendoza and daughter Andi Eigenmann.
“Inaalay ko sa Filipino ang trophy na ito. Hindi ito basta trophy, napakahirap makuha ito.
(I offer this trophy to the Filipino people. This is not just a simple trophy. It’s so hard to get this thing),” she said upon her arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 3.
Jose was named Best Actress for her role in Ma’ Rosa, a film about a mother of four children who owns a small store in a poor neighborhood forced to sell drugs to survive.
It was first time that a Filipino actor won the award. Mendoza won the first best director honor at Cannes in 2009 for “Kinatay”.
