Troops, militia repulse NPA attack on Compostela Valley village



ZAMBOANGA CITY – New People’s Army rebels attacked a military detachment in Compostela Valley but were repulsed by government soldiers and militiamen.
Officials said the fighting in the village of Magnaga in Pantukan town lasted more than three hours.
The rebels tried to overrun the detachment defended by militias and soldiers, according to the 10th Infantry Division.
It said the concerted efforts of battalion commanders Lt. Col. Alexis Bravo, of the 72nd Infantry Battalion Cadre, and Lt. Col. Francisco Lorenzo, of the 28th Infantry Battalion, foiled the NPA attack.
