• Trough of LPA will bring rain over Luzon including MM on Sunday

Most parts of Luzon including Metro Manila will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers on Sunday due to trough of low pressure area (LPA), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said that as of 4 a.m. the LPA was spotted some 310 km east of Tuguegarao City (17 .5ºN, 12 5.0 ºE).

Mendoza said the LPA has a slim chance to develop into a tropical cyclone and is expected to dissipate in the next six to 12 hours due to disorganization of cloudiness.

But Mendoza said the weather bureau continues to monitor the LPA and in case it intensifies into a tropical depression within the Philippine territory, it would be named “Kanor,” the second cyclone to visit the country this month and the 11th for this year.

The weather bureau still expects two or three more tropical cyclones to enter the country this month.

However, Menodza said due to the trough or extended cloudiness of the LPA, light to moderate rains are expected in Metro Manila and the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite Laguna, Batangas, Romblon Quezon), Bicol and Zamboanga Peninsula

“Residents in these areas and local disaster risk reduction management councils concerned are advised to be alert and take all the necessary precautionary measures and monitor updates on this weather disturbance,” PAGASA said in an advisory.

Mendoza said the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northwest to west will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest over Visayas and Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

For weekly outlook, PAGASA said the LPA will weaken and then dissipate on Sunday but the Bicol Region will continue to experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

It added that gradual improvement of weather conditions will be expected over the rest of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao except for some isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Likewise, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with afternoon or evening isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Throughout the rest of the outlook period (August 18 – 22), the whole archipelago will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

It added that no tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country. However, this outlook will be updated as soon as significant changes in the weather pattern occur. PNA
