It was a night of “technobabble” at the Peninsula Manila Hotel as Globe Telecommunications Company (Globe) held its annual Globe T@tt Awards in July 5, recognizing prominent web personalities in the local social media scene.
On its third year, the telecom company has received 300,000 votes nationwide compared to its 30,000 votes of last year. This event has come a long way, proving that the social media scene is getting stronger as more people in the web are getting involved.
This year’s internet phenomenon alone include scenes from the “Amalayer” video, where a student was filmed shouting at a lady guard went viral, as well as the “Gyomi” dance, “Gangnam Style” and “Call Me Maybe” parodies were all mainstream favorites, showing how influential social media is to the public.
With 22 million views on Youtube, local rap icon Abra and the hunky internet phenomenon Sebastion Castro were just some of the performers for the night that had a huge pull in the social media scene.
The T@tt Awards night was hosted by Globe endorser Bianca Gonzales and news reporter Atom Araullo. Zia Quizon graced the stage as she opened the night’s show, followed by opening remarks from the head of Tattoo Nomadic Broadband business, Dong Ronquillo.
“The social media world is engaged more than ever. It is evident that everyone wants to inspire, to be great, and this is the very reason why T@tt Awards exists,” Ronquillo said. “Tatt Awards is the first and only social media awards that tag across all social media and channels. It has come a long way to what it is today, and this is because all of you continue to inspire and do something great in the social media.”
First set of winners of the coveted social media award were: Gawad Kalinga as the “Best Social Media Movement”; DG MNL blogger David Guison as the “Best Style Blog”; takbo.ph as the “Best Sports Blog”; Unbox Podcast as “Best Tech Blog or Podcast” and Lloyd Candena as “Best Comedy on Youtube.”
The night went on as more awards were given to “netizens” across the country: “Best Travel/Food Blog” to Filipino Recipes; “Best Podcast” to Becky Nights; “Best Music on Youtube” to Abra; and “Young Star Blog of the Year” to Stache Magazine.
The four major awards of the night went to: Professional Heckler as the “Blogger Phenom of the Year”; Jamich as the “Youtube Phenom of the Year”; Patrick Dy as “Instagram Phenom of the Year” and Kimpoy Feliciano “Trending Twitter Phenom of the Year.”
