Tuguegarao City annual fiesta kicks off

TUGUEGARAO City kicked off its annual Pavvurulun Afi Festival on Thursday, a yearly festivity to showcase the city’s festival of fire in honor of Saint Hyacinth. Mayor Jefferson Soriano said festival is an integration of traditional and contemporary activities showcasing “festival of fire”, adding that fire and offering will be the focus of the five-day festivities with the use of torches. He said the city’s name Tuguegarao is believed to have originated from Ibanag word “Tuggui” which means fire and the combination of the words “tugguie gari yaw”. The festival also features float parade bearing each barangay’s bounty, agri-trade fair, carabao and horse racing, and the famous Pancit Batil Patung festival (noodle cooking and eating).
