The reconstruction of the mosques in Tacloban and Ormoc cities which were damaged due to Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 were recently completed by “Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı” in cooperation with the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey.
Consequently, the opening ceremony of Tacloban City Mosque and Cultural Centre took place on June 2 in Tacloban. A delegation from Turkey came in the Philippines to participate in the said ceremony and held a Ramadan Programme in the aftermath.
Turkey was, in fact, the first country to extend much needed aid to the region following Typhoon Yolanda.
Responding to humanitarian crises and extending a helping hand even to the farthest geographical regions through its several state institutions such as the Presidency of Religious Affairs, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and Turkish Red Crescent have become an indispensable aspect of Turkish foreign policy.
Turkey hoped that the social projects in Tacloban and Ormoc Cities be the symbol of Turkish-Filipino friendship and solidarity.
